Stop leaks before treating the symptom

A moat cannot solve a feeder that continually drips nectar onto its exterior or the ground. Check that the feeder is level, tightly assembled, free of cracks, and protected from strong swinging in the wind.

Bottle-style feeders can sometimes leak when warming air expands inside the reservoir. Saucer-style feeders tend to be less prone to this pressure-related dripping because the nectar sits below the feeding ports rather than above them.
